"Indie Music" in Mainstream Film

Hey guys.

Today I want to talk about indie music (woot!) and how it's becoming a bigger part of our film industry. Now for those of you who don't know what the word means, the term "indie" is used to describe artists and bands who are independent from a major record label. They fully fund their albums, they promote their own music, they book their own tours. They basically eliminate the middle man (the record label) and connect straight to their fanbase themselves.

I watched a Vampire Diaries episode a while ago and was pretty much shocked at how much indie music was in it. I mean, it's a mainstream TV show with a teenage audience so I was definitely expecting more so mainstream songs (which they did have, for example 3oh!3's "Don't Trust Me", The All-American Reject's "Back To Me") but the majority of music was by some great indie artists and bands including Metric, Free Energy, Editors and Rogue Wave.

This is happening more and more. Big-name movies come out and their soundtracks have these amazing undiscovered indie songs. They just add something to the film that you can't really get out of a mainstream song. Indie music rocks!

"Star Crossed Lovers In The Sky"

Hey guys! If you're new here, WELCOME to my blog. If you're not so new here, well you guys know how it works. Haha, glad to see you back!

Let's talk about new things going on this week. If you guys haven't watched it yet, check out the vid of my brand new song
"Star Crossed Lovers In The Sky". I just finished the song a few weeks ago so you get to be one of the first ones to hear it! Story behind the song? I actually started writing "Star Crossed Lovers In The Sky" when a screenwriter approached me about a possible song on the soundtrack of a film he was working on. The song is basically about a guy who is in love with a girl who is dying, so throughout the song he is trying to cope with the inevitable reality of living without her. Now, I've been getting a lot of questions about the title of the song, so I thought I'd tell you guys the reason behind the name. "Star Crossed Lovers" was the original name the screenwriter suggested. The two people in the song have this love for each other that can never be so in those last few moments nothing else matters to them, it's like they're in a different world, so that's why I decided to go with "In The Sky". Click the link and watch the vid. I'd love to hear what you think of the song.

On Wednesday night I went into Vancouver and saw a musical version of "The Wedding Singer". It's one of my favorite movies, and I have to say the show was great! One of the reasons why I love it so much is that now a days you don't really get to hear much of the classic 80's music unless you happen to listen to a song that has used part of an 80's hit, for example Flo Rida's "Spin Me Right Around". The show also had some awesome Cars (the band) songs in it, so that didn't hurt either.

Have an awesome weekend guys!

Major Revamp!

Hellooo everybody and welcome to my new totally revamped home page. Take your time, check it out - there's tons of new stuff going on so have some fun!

Haha so, update. Let's see...last week I got back from a week-long roadtrip down to Hollywood, CA. Had such an awesome time there! I went down 'cause my bro Cainan Wiebe was nominated for three awards at the 31st Annual Young Artist Awards, so we got to see them live. No wins for him this year but we had a blast while we were down there. We did the whole tourist thing - walked the Walk of Fame, toured the famous places. Got to go inside the Kodak Theatre where they hold the Oscars every year and you would not believe how huge it is!
I saw Nicolas Cage on the red carpet along with a few other stars in and around Hollywood and I actually got to see 'The Mansion' where the Red Hot Chili Peppers recorded "Under the Bridge". THAT was pretty awesome.
Oh, and if any of you are planning to go to Hollywood soon, stop by Ashton Kutcher's restaurant "Ketchup" on the Sunset Strip. The food is amazzzzzzing.

So, as of right now I'm working on a couple new songs - a ballad and a more upbeat-Sara Bareilles-type one. I'm thinking the ballad's gonna be called "Superman's Girlfriend". Also, watch for the VFS Charity Compilation Album coming out next month. "Let Go", a song off my debut album YOU & ME, will be one of the tracks on it! Check it out, listen, buy - it's for a great cause!

Now, I will leave you with a Chuck Norris fact since I am basically addicted to these things AND they are funny.

"If you have $5 and Chuck Norris has $5, Chuck Norris has more money than you.
